Shōen was one of the first women to paint professionally and change the mentality around women artists in Japan. She was a trail blazing artist most known for her paintings and prints of beauties, she went on to become one of Japan’s most renowned female artists. She reached a level of recognition that was previously unheard of as she became the first woman to receive the esteemed Order of Culture award.

Kinoshita Oju was the son of the founder of the Manuyama school, and worked in the characteristic style of the school, namely a realistic approach to naturalistic subject matters.

Ohara Koson was a Japanese painter and woodblock print designer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, part of the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement.
Ohara Koson was famous as a master of kachō-e (bird-and-flower) designs. Throughout a prolific career, in which he created around 500 prints, he went by three different titles: Ohara Hōson, Ohara Shōson and Ohara Koson.
