Yayoi Kusama's (b. 1929) is a renowned Japanese contemporary artist celebrated for her prolific work in pop art, minimalism, and performance art. Known for her signature polka dots and immersive "Infinity Mirror Rooms," her career spans painting, sculpture, film, and literature, with themes often stemming from childhood hallucinations and psychological experiences. After a brief but influential period in New York in the late 1950s and 1960s, she returned to Japan, where her work later received renewed global recognition and continues to be exhibited worldwide.
She has been acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan, the world's top-selling female artist (Kusama has consistently achieved the highest annual auction sales over time, particularly as a living artist) and the world's most successful living artist.
