Lucio Fontana (19 February 1899 – 7 September 1968) was an Argentine-Italian painter, sculptor, and theorist known as the founder of the art movement Spatialism. His work, often incorporating holes and slashes in canvases, aimed to transcend traditional art by introducing the concept of space and movement. He developed these ideas in a series of manifestos and art pieces, most famously the Concetto Spaziale series.
Fontana's works are held in the permanent collections of more than one hundred museums and major private collections worldwide ( Museum of Modern Art in New York, Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, the Tate Gallery in London and many others)
