DAN BLOODWORTH

Norfolk born contemporary artist Dan Bloodworth is now newly established in his home studio in Liverpool, he just left London where he has lived and taken inspiration for the last few years. His work often explores modern day life with a western theme and naïve brush. He is a self-taught artist, having taken inspiration from folk art and western culture, he has translated these into subject matters personal to him and developed a distinctive style.  

His contemporary folk style contains playful compositions, painting fast with freedom, which is also a constant theme in his work, he brings meaning to the little things in life. 

Dan is often exploring darker themes with a light-hearted point of view. Within his works we can see motifs and subjects drawn from his personal life such as childhood memories visiting his family’s ranch in America and the people he meets in London now, these are all reimagined as characters and places into his works.

When painting, Dan plays with the depth in his works, building up layers he often works over scenes to create new ones leaving remnants peeking through. In his paintings you can often see the multitudes of scenes, colours or figures, all on the surface of the canvas. These layers remind us of the time he spends with each work finding the scene he wishes to display.
